FAQ
Q. Why should I have my extinguishers serviced?
A. Keeping your fire extinguishers charged and properly serviced can be vital in saving lives and property. And, it’s the law! The Occupational Safety & Health Administration (OSHA) as well as state and local laws and ordinances require employers to have fire extinguishers operational and regularly inspected. In addition, OSHA requires that all employees receive annual training on the proper use of portable fire extinguishers. Fredriksen Fire would be happy to help you with your training needs as well.
Q. How much will it cost to have my extinguishers serviced?
A. That depends on a number of factors, including the type and age of your extinguishers. Please call (630) 595-9500 for a no-obligation quote.
Q. What are the types of extinguisher service?
A. The most common powder-filled extinguishers require a visible inspection and certification every year and an internal inspection and recharge every six years; both of these services can be performed on-site in our mobile service units. Every twelve years, a hydrostatic test is required. This involves filling the extinguisher with water and pressurizing the fire extinguisher to test its structural integrity. The hydrostatic test is performed in our Wood Dale facility.
Carbon dioxide extinguishers are subject to an annual visible inspection and certification as well as a high-pressure hydrostatic test every five years. For more detailed information regarding the required service for different types of fire extinguishers, see our fire extinguisher maintenance chart.
Q. What is the delivery time for new units?
A. The most common types of extinguishers are kept in stock on the mobile service units and can be sold to you while your Fire Safety Consultant is at your location. Other types of extinguishers may need to be ordered.
For those customers on especially tight budgets, Fredriksen Fire may have refurbished units available for sale on a first-come, first-served basis.
Q. Does Fredriksen service fire panels, sprinkler systems, and kitchen systems?
A. Yes! Unlike some other fire safety companies, Fredriksen services a full range of fire safety needs, including kitchen fire suppression systems, emergency lighting, fire alarms, clean agent systems, and sprinklers. We even provide fire extinguisher training with a “live fire” demonstration at your location.
